Payroll Giving is a fantastic scheme. It makes it very easy for you to give to Charity in a tax-effective way. Putting it simply, it costs you less to give more!
If you are paid through PAYE (Pay as Your Earn) then you can do Payroll Giving, as long as your employer has signed up to the scheme. Basically, donations are made straight from gross pay before tax, and this means the value of donations is increased.
For instance, if you are a basic rate taxpayer and you pledge to give £10 per month, it actually only costs you £7.80.
and if you are a higher rate tax payer the £10 per month would only cost £6.
So how do I go about it?
First of all, check whether your employer is currently operating a Payroll Giving scheme. If they are then its very simple for you to join and your payroll or HR department will be able to help you.
If your employer is not currently signed up to the scheme, it is certainly worth asking if they will consider doing so. Its easy for them to operate.
